Top 10 Southern Rock Songs

The best southern rock songs merge the basic fundamentals of rock ‘n’ roll, country and the blues to create a sound that more than justifies its own genre. The music often incorporates long jams, boogie rhythms and fast guitar leads, with lyrics relating to the values and excesses of the southern working class. Now, we're fixin’ to look back and choose the ten of the best southern rock songs ever. Mind you, we’ve excluded ‘Free Bird’ (just because we’re rebel rousers), and for the sake of variety we’ve only picked one song from each band. What's the most embarrassing thing that could happen at a gig? Spilling your pint on a stranger? Your gig buddy talking so loudly that they're 'Sssh'd by a fellow carrying a backpack? Nope, it's beginning to clap before the end of a song. You know, when there's a pause in the track and you think it's finished but it hasn't. And then everyone looks at you. And then you have to go and have a cry in the loos. This made us think about what songs had 'false endings' in. Hence this particular Listomania- the Best Pauses In Rock. For LOLs we thought we might add in John Cage's '4.33'- aka the ULTIMATE pause in rock- but then we thought better of it. -By Priya Elan
